Help with mitosis Mitosis versus meiosis

Here's an animation that will let you see the flow of the various steps of meiosis you learned on previous pages (please be patient — it may take a moment to load). The animation shows the entire process of meiosis, which
  1. divides a single cell into four separate cells;
  2. halves the chromosome number of each;
  3. segregates the two sister chromatids of each chromosome into separate daughter cells.
The resulting cells are either gametes or cells that give rise to gametophytes via mitosis. Note that early during meiosis (during Prophase I) there is an exchange of DNA between the two members of each sister chromatid pair ("crossing-over").
