This is the original Latin of Conrad Gesner's brief account of a shonkey (sheep-donkey hybrid) kept at the palace of the king of France (Historia Animalium, Liber I, De Quadrupedibus Viviparis, 1551, p. 19):

“Hoc tempore in aula regís Galliarum аnimal nutriri aiunt ab anteriore parte asini posteríore ovis specie. Sed praeter institutum est bígenera hic omnia persequi.”
